Rooftops are the most demanding outdoor brief in hospitality: high wind load, intense UV, weight limits, and furniture that is moved daily for cleaning and events. The wrong spec shows up as bent frames and faded cushions within a single summer.
Weight, but not too much
Structures often cap deck load, so solid cast pieces are out. Marine-grade aluminium hits the sweet spot — light enough to redeploy, heavy enough not to blow. Always request wind-tipping guidance for tall pieces.
Cushions that commute
Spec quick-dry foam with mesh cores and solution-dyed covers. They survive a downpour, dry overnight, and resist the chlorine and sunscreen that rooftop guests bring. Store them in labelled totes keyed to each setting.
Plan for the lift
Every piece will ride the service elevator. Modular, stackable, and nestable formats cut labour and damage. Brief your supplier on the route — a 2.1m sofa that will not corner is a very expensive mistake.
