A Mediterranean garden oasis is less a style than a feeling: dappled shade, the scent of cypress and rosemary, and furniture that seems to have grown from the terrace itself. Achieving it is mostly about restraint and material honesty.

Start with the ground

Use natural stone or baked clay for paths and patios. Their thermal mass keeps surfaces cool underfoot and develops a patina that synthetic decking cannot mimic. Keep planting loose and fragrant — lavender, olive, and ornamental grasses do the heavy lifting.

Choose furniture that belongs

Wrought aluminium with a hand-applied finish, teak left to silver, and rope weaving in sandy tones all read as "of the place." Avoid high-gloss plastics; they break the spell. Pieces should be low, generous, and made to be left outside.

Layer for the long evening

The Mediterranean evening is the point. Add a low table, a few lanterns, and a daybed oriented to the sunset. Performance fabrics in muted clay and sage shrug off dew and UV, so the oasis looks intentional from June to October.
